This breakfast room adjoins the beautiful kitchen shown above as well as the two story great room with 22 ft ceilings. Providing comfort and an inviting feeling was the challenge. The beautiful slate blue paint which provided a cool background for rich french white cabinets in the kitchen is just dramatic and strong enough for this space. We sampled 4 versions of slate on 24x24 inch boards by holding them against each major surface in both rooms until we were confident that we had the perfect tone for the combined purposes. Simple furniture and art give a casual impression while large scale imagery relates well to the overall spacious environment. The cool red draperies have a beautifully depicted peacock of traditional New England quaint style as well as trim with both soft red and slate blue to provide a thread of continuity.
This home was decorated in 2007, well before the blue craze began. Today, I am recommending many combinations with blue other than brown to have a more timeless design.
